All Access Ortho Introduces Maui Team, Offers Specialty Services
PRESS RELEASE – Feb. 11, 2022
Since its opening in December, All Access Ortho Maui (AAOM) is already seeing a steady roster of clients and will soon provide expanded services to the community, with an additional physicians coming on board in March.
Hawaiʻi’s first standalone orthopedic urgent care clinic opened its Maui location in Pukalani on Dec. 13, 2021. Under the leadership of Gary “Kiki” Takashiro Blum, M.D., the clinic provides immediate, specialized care for injuries that are not severe enough to merit care at a trauma center. No appointment is necessary, and the clinic is open to all.
“We are so pleased to be welcomed by the community, and to provide top-of-the-line service from our amazing team members,” says Dr. Blum.
Maui native Brittni Kimie Peralto Hoe is Lead Physician Assistant and Clinic Manager at AAOM. In fact, it was her return home in 2020 that inspired the expansion to the Valley Isle.
In 2020, she and her family relocated to Maui, which motivated the opening of the new office. Brittni, her husband Justin, and their two children Ezekiel and Emmi are thrilled to be here and to establish strong roots as a family. Born on Maui, Brittni feels it is her kuleana to help community members by providing them with direct access to specialized orthopedic care. “I’m so excited to be able to make a difference here on Maui by helping people with their orthopedic-related injuries and pains,” Brittni says.
The AAO team is further strengthened by the addition of Adam Mays, who is nationally certified as a Physician Assistant with an Added Qualification in Orthopedic Surgery. Adam began his career in medicine in 1989 as a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman during Operation Desert Storm. He went on to gain experience across multiple surgical specialties before continuing his training in orthopedic medicine and its surgical sub-specialties.
Adam is currently one of the only P.A. providers in the state of Hawai‘i with Certified Added Qualification in Orthopedic Surgery and was the first to be certified in Washington State, where he completed the MEDEX Northwest program at University of Washington School of Medicine. Working in private practice orthopedics in the outer Seattle area, Adam also served as a lead faculty preceptor at a physician residency training program, teaching musculoskeletal medicine. He has extensive experience in clinical, procedural and surgical orthopedics, with expertise in diagnostic imaging interpretation, determining surgical indications, and fast-tracking surgical intervention, when appropriate.
“I consider it a privilege to play the role of adviser and healer to advance the health of my patients,” Adam says.
Patients have even more specialized options for care through AAOM’s partnership with Hawaiʻi Hand & Rehabilitation Services (HHRS). HHRS’ co-owners Tammy Momohara and Sheri Azama provide onsite Certified Hand Therapy and Splinting Services for patients who need these services, whether due to chronic conditions or injury, or before or after surgery.
Tammy and Sheri are both Certified Hand Therapists who formed HHRS in 2008. They have several locations on Oʻahu to meet the needs of patients requiring specialized care to manage hand conditions and are eager to help meet the needs of patients on Maui as well!
“Tammy will be traveling to Maui once per week and actually has hand therapy equipment stored at our AAOM clinic,” said Dr. Blum. “She is capable of creating specialty splints and doing Certified Hand Therapy treatment onsite.”
In addition to the partnership with HHRS, AAOM will also offer a weekly Pediatric Orthopedics Specialty Consultation Clinic with Dr. Byron Izuka, a Board Certified Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon. Dr. Izuka has more than 20 years of experience in the field and is well published. He will be in the Maui clinic on Fridays, beginning March 11, 2022.
Dr. Izuka is a proud graduate of Aiea High School. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Irvine and attended the University of Hawai‘i John A. Burns School of Medicine (UH JABSOM) and Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program. He then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery at the Nemours Children’s Clinic in Orlando, Fla., before returning home to stay.
“As a team, our training and experience cover all aspects of orthopedic urgent care, and we will make every effort to lessen your time away from sports, work or school because of arthritis or injury,” says Dr. Blum. “We are dedicated to meeting your orthopedic needs on Maui, with no appointment necessary!”
Born and raised in Honolulu, Gary “Kiki” Takashiro Blum, M.D. is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who has worked extensively in hand, elbow, shoulder, and general issues. Dr. Blum has spent time as a visiting resident and fellow at programs across the country, including Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, and Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He has worked and trained with some of the finest doctors in the field and has completed orthopedic outreach programs in the South Pacific and Vietnam.
Core services at All Access Ortho Maui include state-of-the-art treatment of fractures, dislocations, tendon and ligament injuries, neck and back pain, arthritis, sports injuries, lacerations, sprains, no-fault and workers’ compensation injuries.
